Q: I live hours away from my parents. How will I know what is going on with my father?
A: Once you have selected a Care Manager, you will receive regular updates in writing or by phone. In addition, your Care Manager will keep you informed of unexpected events or emergencies. You will be involved in any decision that must be made.
Q: Can you help find a reliable home provider for my mother?
A: Your Care Manager has experience in arranging for home care and other support services to enable your mother to live at home safely.
Q: Can you help us select a facility that will provide the right kind of care for our parents?
A: Your Care Manager is knowledgeable about local facilities for senior care, and will work closely with you to look at all of the options and make the best recommendations for your situation.
Q: My parents need help, but won't accept it. What can I do?
A: It's common for an older person to initially resist outside help. Professional Geriatric Care Managers have the skills needed to develop rapport even with difficult clients. Your Care Manager will be able to suggest several different approaches to overcoming a parent's objections.
Q: What does your service cost?
A: Professional fees vary, but average rates range from $50 to $150 an hour. Services can be short-term or on-going. Individual Care Managers will explain their fee structures to you.
Q: Are your services covered by Medicare or insurance?
A: Medicare and most health insurance plans do not cover the cost of care management at this time. Some long-term care insurance plans will reimburse for care management services.
